Nature identical preservatives are very important. Some but not all will allow the use of preservatives to ensure that products are microbiologically safe and have a stable shelf life. Certain nature-identical preservatives are allowed in addition to natural preservatives. When these preservatives are used, products must be labelled. Some of these are: benzoic acid, its salts and ethyl ester, salicylic acid and its salts, sorbic acid and its salts, benzyl alcohol.
